THE NEW NIKON 105MM f/1.4E ED lens REVIEW
I am not going to go to to construction of this lens and how solid is build and what is made of. I am going to give you my private review, my first impression after taking few shots.
As a portrait photographer i must say i was waiting for this kind of lens. I was so disappointed that Canon makes 85mm 1.2 and Nikon cant make it. But finally Nikon make some big step and made it happen. There's a reason why Canon can make 1.2 and Nikon not, but i will not bore you with those details.
So. NIKON 105mm, wow what an amazing Focal Length, perfection for portrait. Aperture, wow again! f/1.4 an amazing aperture combining with 105mm focal length. The 105 mm focal length combines with a shortest focusing distance of 1 m to enable frame filling head shots without the need to crop. Depth of field is so shallow that you can separate your object totally from the background. Perfect clarity even when shooting at the widest aperture of f/1.4. Auto focusing is damn fast. And most of all this lens is crazy sharp.
Now, f/1.4 is not the setting i will use so often, but there is some times when 1.4 is really handy. Specially in darker moments, and in some more artistic portraits.
Front glass of this lens is 82mm, that's
big, bigger than 70-200. Weight 1kg more less, heavy to walk around all day.
So, my first impression are extremely good. I am happy with this lens and i would recommend to portraitists.
